GLOSSARY

What is proxy anonymity (transparent, anonymous, elite)?

Proxy anonymity levels describe how much a proxy reveals about you. Learn transparent vs anonymous vs elite and test a proxy free.

A proxy’s anonymity level describes how much it discloses about the fact you are using a proxy — and about your real IP. The three levels are transparent, anonymous, and elite (high-anonymity).

The three levels

Transparent proxies forward your real IP in headers like X-Forwarded-For — the destination sees both the proxy and you. Anonymous proxies hide your real IP but still add headers that announce a proxy is in use. Elite proxies add nothing revealing, so the destination sees an ordinary client with no sign a proxy is involved.

Which you want

For privacy and scraping you want anonymous or, ideally, elite — a transparent proxy leaks the very thing you are trying to hide. Our proxy checker reports the detected anonymity level so you know what a proxy actually exposes.
