What is a residential proxy?

A residential proxy routes traffic through a real home ISP IP, so it looks like an ordinary user. Learn residential vs datacenter and test a proxy free.

A residential proxy routes your requests through an IP address assigned by an ISP to a real home connection. Because the exit IP looks like an ordinary residential user, sites are far less likely to block it than a datacenter IP.

Residential vs datacenter

Datacenter proxies come from cloud/hosting ranges — fast and cheap, but easy for sites to identify and block in bulk. Residential proxies use consumer ISP IPs, so they blend in with normal traffic and are much harder to distinguish from a genuine visitor. The trade-off is cost and, sometimes, speed.

When to use residential

Choose residential when a target aggressively blocks datacenter ranges — sneaker sites, travel aggregators, social platforms, and anything with strong anti-bot. For lenient or internal targets, datacenter proxies are cheaper and faster.

Rotating IPs

Residential pools usually rotate: each request (or session) can exit from a different IP, spreading traffic across many addresses so no single IP draws attention. Our residential network supports rotation across 190+ countries.

FAQ

Are residential proxies better than datacenter?›
For avoiding blocks, yes — they look like real users. For raw speed and cost on lenient targets, datacenter can be better.
How do I check a residential proxy?›
Use our proxy checker to confirm it is alive, see its exit IP and latency, and check its anonymity level.
