String to MD5
Generate the MD5 hash of any text instantly. Free online MD5 tool — plus why MD5 is fine as a checksum but broken for security.
Paste text and get its MD5 digest — a 32-character hex fingerprint. MD5 is fast and fine for detecting accidental changes, but broken for anything security-sensitive.
Use MD5 only as a checksum
MD5 is great for a quick non-adversarial integrity check — confirming a file downloaded without corruption, or deduplicating content. It is fast and widely supported.
Why it is not secure
Researchers can cheaply craft two different inputs with the same MD5 (a collision), so it must never be used for signatures, certificates, or password hashing. For those, use SHA-256 or a proper password KDF.
